A Rare Complication Post-Hysterectomy for Fibroids: a Case Report and Literature Review of Pulmonary Benign Metastasising Leiomyoma

Benign metastasising leiomyoma is a rare complication of common gynaecological condition, often requiring multidisciplinary team input. No guidelines exist for its management. We aim to highlight an unusual case and summarise international practice investigation management from existing literature, facilitate better recognition in the future. present challenging progressive pulmonary BML woman with previous lung cancer. An extensive Pubmed search was performed using terms: benign, metastasising, metastasizing, parasitic, leiomyoma, leiomyomata, leiomyomatosis, fibroid fibroids. All English papers available free text were reviewed literature review. Seventy-eight relevant reporting 118 cases histopathology-confirmed included. report demographics, backgrounds presenting symptoms women. Diagnosis involved CT imaging 95% immunohistochemistry 85% most markers used being ER, PR, SMA Ki-67. PET scan 25%. also options, including overview current hormonal treatment follow-up regimes which typically involves regular CT-scans. Pulmonary benign condition but it presents similarly cancer, making our especially complex. Malignancy must therefore always be differential diagnosis. Management individualised as shown review may expectant, medical or surgical, strong emphasis on follow-up.
